Jagaran Media Center
Jagaran Media Center (JMC) is a non-governmental organization established in 2000, has been advocating for eliminating caste and gender-based discrimination, and creating a more equitable, inclusive society through media mobilization. JMC has grown over the years and is now considered to be one of the leading right-based media organizations in Nepal. The center has promoted Dalit empowerment by imparting capacity building activities to Dalit community exposing their issues to media. It also produces and broadcasts Radio programs and operates FM radio station Radio Jagaran 93.6 Mhz in Rupandehi district of Nepal. JMC organizes discussions, and interactions and carries out research and studies. The organization had produced the acclaimed television serial “Dalan”, publishes and distributes books and journals, and monitors cases of human rights violations against the Dalit community. The organization has been implementing the projects all over the country and collaborating with various community-based FM Radio stations, civil society organizations, development partners, media enterprises and journalists.
Detailed JOB Description/ Requirements
1. BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT
The project – Promoting Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) through Media Mobilization, Civil Society Engagement, and Evidence-based Advocacy – in cooperation with IM Swedish Development Partner (IM) is a continuation of the incessant advocacy effort of this rights-based media mobilization. Having entered into this cooperation, the organization not only expedites its ongoing effort but also embraces economic rights onboard its media campaign. The project is being implemented at Dang, Kapilvastu, and Nawalparasi. The information of the activities carried out by the ecosystem partners of IM Swedish partners in Lumbini province is collected and developed as radio program, feature news, case stories and article which is published in print media and English online translating into English. In this regard, JMC hereby invites the application from qualified professionals to fulfill the vacant post to be stationed in JMC office Kathmandu as mentioned in detail of position. S/he would be accountable for carrying out the project activities along with reporting the portfolio to Project Coordinator.

2. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Produce news/article, and information in English language for online and news portals operating by the organization.
· Produce case stories in English Language by gathering information and researching specific issues, and interview sessions from the project-implemented districts.
· Translate major press releases, media briefings and scripts of video stories in English language.
· Contribute sharing ideas with JMC team for planning and promotional efforts.
· Support to JMC team to develop concept notes and proposal as required.
· Assist for preparing the repots and documents of completed activities to share with national and internationals stakeholders.
· Support to the media department in translating the overall program scripts of Katwal Radio Magazine in weekly basis.
· Perform as active member of Media department for producing and broadcasting media-related documents.
3. REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in major English and minimum 1 year of experience translating documents from Nepali to English and vice-versa in I/NGOs, companies or any organizations. S/he should be familiar with the technicalities of journalism and mass communication and the recent development trends of Nepal. Major streams of formal education as journalism and mass communication would be added assets.
